Settlement accounting, matter by matter

A bank balance is only part of the picture.

Your team also needs to know which client owns the funds, which payments are pending, and what remains available for distribution.

01 / CLIENT FUNDS

Know what belongs to each matter.

Keep settlement receipts and distributions in the client’s ledger, so a pooled trust-account balance does not obscure an individual matter’s position.

02 / DISBURSEMENT REVIEW

See the obligations before paying.

Bring lienholder payments, attorney fees, cost reimbursements, and the client payment into one matter-level review.

03 / PROTECTED HISTORY

Keep a record you can explain.

Cleared entries stay locked. Controlled voids and reversals preserve the history of corrections for later review.

From settlement receipt to reconciliation

One connected process for the whole team.

  1. 01
    Receive

    Record the settlement

Attribute the deposit to the client matter and distinguish the recorded balance from funds available for disbursement.

  2. 02
    Prepare

    Account for each payee

Record the attorney-approved amounts for lienholders, fees, reimbursable case costs, and the client’s distribution.

  3. 03
    Review

    Check funds before approval

Consider uncleared deposits and pending payments against the matter’s available funds before approving a disbursement.

  4. 04
    Approve

    Keep the attorney in control

Staff prepares the work. Authorized attorneys review the proposed payments and retain the final approval step.

  5. 05
    Reconcile

Close the loop on the records

Track cleared payments and compare bank, trust liability, and matter-ledger totals through three-way reconciliation.

Does FIDGARD calculate attorney fees or resolve liens?

Your firm determines the fee, cost, lien, and client-distribution amounts. FIDGARD supports the records, available-funds checks, approvals, and reconciliation around those decisions. It does not replace legal review or lien negotiation.

Can staff prepare payments for attorney review?

Yes. Staff can prepare disbursements while authorized attorneys retain control of final approval. The review and approval history remains connected to the activity.

Does it replace our case-management system?

No. Keep case activity in your existing system and use FIDGARD for matter-level trust records, disbursement controls, and reconciliation. We will confirm the data-transfer workflow for your firm during the demo; compatibility does not mean every system has a direct integration.

Does FIDGARD hold settlement funds?

No. Funds remain in your firm-controlled bank accounts. FIDGARD coordinates records, reviews, approvals, and reconciliation without taking custody of client funds.

Can we start with existing settlement matters?

The guided trial starts by reviewing your accounts, beginning balances, and matter records. Your team can compare the workflow with its current process before expanding adoption.

What does it cost?

The first 30 days are free, with expert-guided setup included. The published subscription is $199 per month afterward if you continue, with no per-check fee. We will confirm account scope and any applicable document-processing charges during your demo.
